From the Pastors Desk – Christmas 2013

Picture 018Peace on earth is the theme this year for us here at Oasis Christian Centre in Beeston.

It is taken from the message that the Angels sang on the night that Jesus – The Promised Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6) was born.

In the fields Shepherds were keeping watch over their flocks of sheep. Suddenly the Angel of The Lord appeared in all The Glory of The Lord. The Shepherds, very understandably, were terrified. The Gospel of Luke records the historical event in chapter 2: 10-14.

Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you Good News of great joy which shall be for all people; today in the City of David there has been born for you a Saviour, who is Christ The Lord.  And this shall be a sign for you. You will find a babywrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.

Suddenly there appeared with the Angel a multitude of the Heavenly Host praising God and saying, Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth Peace among men with whomHis favour rests.

Peace on Earth is the message of The Angels Song from Heavenly Father to us!

Peace on Earth is the message The Angels sang to the Shepherds

Peace on Earth is the message of The Angels song declaring A Name of Jesus – Prince of Peace!

We live in a world of turmoil, strife, strain, challenge and difficulty. But Jesus was born, Saviour of the world, so that we could live in the Peace of God – in the midst of the reality of our life.

Saul, who became the Apostle Paul, had been so Anti-Christ but Jesus met him on the road to Damascus. He was converted. He accepted his need of the forgiveness of God – only available as a gift from God, through Jesus who died on the cross to pay for his (Saul) and our sin. He writes in Colossians 1:20 about Peace through the blood of His cross. Saul confessed his sin, turned away from it and began living with Jesus as boss of his life. As he did so he received Peace on Earth, in his life.

We too can know Peace on Earth, by experiencing, on a moment to moment basis:-

PEACE WITH GOD – We have peace with God! (Romans 5:1)

PEACE WITH OURSELVES – He Himself is our Peace! (Ephesians 2:14)

PEACE WITH OTHERS – As we practice peace. The God of Peace shall be with you! (Philippians 4:9)

This Christmastime, and for all of our earthly life, our prayer is that we will live with, in, and expressing Peace on Earth. To fulfil that we need to know Jesus, The Prince of Peace. Just as He was waiting for the visit the Shepherds so Jesus waits for you to talk to Him, worship Him, and live for Him!
