For 22 years now, at this time of the year, my thoughts, and our planning at The Oasis Christian Centre, Beeston begins to turn towards Christmas!
Before you scream, “Ahhhhh!!!” The reason, is that we have been involved with Samaritan’s Purse, Shoe Box Appeal, for that length of time.
Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 25, where He speaks about “The Parable of the Talents” has always impacted me. He is speaking about His judgement over our lives, for He is King:-
“The King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me!”
We cannot earn, by works, Salvation – being in a right place and relationship with God. That is by “confessing with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from dead – only then will you be saved!” (Romans 10 v 9)
We are though, known by our fruits.
During a recent trip to Guyana, and certainly since coming back, I have been greatly challenged and moved – to the point of being over whelmed…… A statement, that has helped me focus and respond to the needs, is this; “I cannot change the whole world BUT I can change the world for one!”
One way in which we seek to “change the world for one” is thought the Shoe Boxes.
