From The Pastor’s Desk…….
Continuing our series of messages entitled: “Lockdown.”
“Lockdown: Moses At The Red Sea.”
Moses’ Mum and Dad came from the Tribe of Levi, The Priestly Tribe.
Pharaoh ordered that all the Hebrew boys be killed at birth by being “thrown in to the Nile.” (Exodus 1:22). The girls were allowed to live.
Mum and Dad placed Moses into a papyrus basket, coating it with far and pitch, enabling it to float, placing it amongst the reeds along the bank of the Nile.
Pharaoh’s daughter found Moses and adopted him. Interestingly “Moses” sounds like Hebrew for “Draw Out.” Unknowingly she gave Moses back to his Mum to bring him up, until he reached an age when he could move into The Palace.
Legitimately we could say that Moses’s life was “Locked Into” three phases:
1. Moses Spent 40 Years In Pharaoh’s Palace, Learning How To Be A
Egypt was The Super Power of the era…. So, Moses learnt all he needed to prepare him to be a Prince of Egypt : Government, War, Architecture, Mathematics, Reading, Writing, Leadership. Moses learnt how to rule. Moses’s head was filled with Intellectual Understanding.
Moses saw the injustice of Egypt’s rule over and treatment of his birth people. He killed an Egyptian. Pharaoh ordered Moses to be killed. Moses ran, into the desert!!
2. Moses Spent 40 Years In The Desert, Learning How To Be A Nobody.
Moses looked after the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law.
All was fine. He had settled down to this shepherd lifestyle when God stepped in to move Moses to another “Lock In.” He did it by speaking to Moses out of a burning bush. A self combusting bush is not unusual in the desert. What drew Moses’s attention to this bush was that it did not burn up. The fire was not extinguished. The Lord told Moses to take his shoes off because he is standing on Holy Ground. Moses received a definition of Who God is (Exodus 3:14) ” I AM Who I Am!” Moses also received God’s Call for the third “Lock In,” to lead the Children of Israel out of Egypt. “This is what you are to say to the Israelites, “I AM has sent me to you.”
Moses’s heart was developed as was his relationship with God.
3. Moses Spent 40 Years Leading The Children of Israel, Learning How
God Could Take A Nobody And Make Him Into A Somebody.
As I said earlier we could see these three phases of Moses’s life as being, “Locked In” to God’s Training and Era of Service…..
But there is, in Moses’s life, a “Lockdown,” at The Red Sea (Exodus 14)
All had seemed well. The Israelites were sent out of Egypt – carrying Egyptian gold and everything they needed for the journey.
By day The Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud nor the pillar of fire left its place Infront of the people. How comforting to see signs of The Presence of God!!!
Pharoah woke up to the fact that he had let his slave workforce go. His heart hardened. He led his army towards the Israelites, who had come to the Red Sea.
Read: Exodus 14:10-12
The enemy attacked the Israelites minds. They saw the Red Sea Infront of them and evidence of the approaching Egyptian Army as the dust clouds rose up behind them. In fear and dread the Israelites began to mutter against Moses! What a noise, millions of people muttering! Poor Moses!
Humble Moses, The Greatest Prophet of the Old Testament, brings The Word of The Lord (Exodus 14:13-14) to his people.
# TIME TO STAND!
“Do not be afraid!
You will see The Deliverance of The Lord!
You will never see the Egyptians again!
The Lord will fight for you!
You need only Be Still!”
Outwardly Moses seemed confident, calm, collected in The Lord. But internally The Lord knew The Truth. He asked Moses, “Why are you crying out to Me?” Moses was crying out, “Help me! What can I do?! God, Do Something!”
Some time earlier, in a different arena, God had asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?” It was his staff. That staff was to be the visible expression of his Faith, In Action! In v21 Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all night The Lord drive the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it to dry land.”
# TIME TO WALK!
There’s a Time To Stand! And, there’s a Time To Walk!
Moses led the Children of Israel out of Lockdown. As they walked they saw the two walls of water being held back. When they had all reached the other side, with all their possessions intact, The Lord released the walls of water, the Red Sea flowed as normal and the Egyptian Army was destroyed! Just as The Lord had promised!
# TIME TO REFLECT AND PRAISE!
When we have done what we can in the natural, The Lord can do what only He can do in the Supernatural! After the Deliverance from Lockdown Moses and Miriam led the children of Israel in a Song of Deliverance as they danced before The Lord.
Finding ourselves in a time of Lockdown…..
Let us take # Time To Stand!
When the release comes let us take # Time To Walk!
When the Lockdown is over let us take # Time To Reflect And Praise!
