Oasis Sport

The sport ministry is a section of the Oasis developments aimed at encouraging people of all ages to develop talent and build confidence.

Our sport has a strong flavour of encouragement and by building confidence we can enjoy taking part in sport throughout our active life. And by doing so we extend our active life well beyond what is currently seen as the normal.

Football played by all ages is encouraging when played with consideration for each other.

Cycling too is excellent form of exercise, getting us out into the countryside. Cycling on designated cycle paths as well as road cycling, we can enjoy the movement and scenery, the wonderful creation of our lord GOD.

Both activities have no age barrier but with the younger children parental help is encouraged and along with the Care for Children practises we intend to keep our children safe from harm.

The Oasis Church has coupled with other churches to form a group called 'SPORT REACH' using a slogan 'Breaking down barriers through sport'.

Please contact me via the office or website to find out more about our plans and activities. More photos from both sports and drama are available in our gallery.

Thoughts and plans for 2012

During my recent break in Belgium I had time to think and although I didn't intend to make a New Year resolution, I decided to write a monthly word or two. I have plans and desires for my cycling this year and I was reminded of a gentleman, who lives in Duffield, he was a pilot but he went blind and had to give it up. Since his blindness he has succesfully piloted a jet aircraft and a drag racer at high speed. His achievments are amzing and extremely diverse. He doesn't let his dissability get in the way and his advice is this, "if you want to do something start planning".
Well with the rides that I have planned this year I decided to begin early with sessions on my static bike(on a turbo). Last year I had trouble with my left shoulder and my neck, so I am using light weights to improve the condition and strength of those areas.
The rides that I have in mind are a ride at Sherwwod Pines, one across the river through Thrumpton and another on the high peak trail see you soon Bob

A NIGHT OF BATTLE

20 minutes to live! When I saw you I thought "OH my GOD" " it was a miracle that you survived". were the words of one nurse. I regard my survival on that night of battle as a miracle from God and because of what God did for me, my life is a living testimony to the mercy of God and to his love for each of us.
I was taken into the Queens Medical Centre on the 23rd of March 2010 having collapsed whilst speaking to the prisoners during a prison visit. God was with me then and provided a paramedic who kept me alive until the ambulance, which was seriously delayed, arrived. My very few reccolections of that time was the number of people involved in saving my life. I felt tlike a superstar, in actual fact the jesus was and is the Superstar. Many people were praying for my complete recovery and when my wife was given 20 minutes to say goodbye, Pastor Nigel and Pat prayed for more time. Some 2 hours later Pat was informed that I needed a procedure or I would die. The doctors and the sugeons and the nurses were doing God's work as they fought to keep me alive and I am eternally gratefull for that. I know this, God was with and gave me an extention to my life and the many prayers had a very big impact during that night of battle, and 12 monthe later I am able to continue the ministries just as before and I can enjoy my cycling and Fit 4 God aerobics just as before, with some caution.
God is Good.
