Oasis Sport

The sport ministry is a section of the Oasis developments aimed at encouraging people of all ages to develop talent and build confidence.

Our sport has a strong flavour of encouragement and by building confidence we can enjoy taking part in sport throughout our active life. And by doing so we extend our active life well beyond what is currently seen as the normal.

Football played by all ages is encouraging when played with consideration for each other.

Cycling too is excellent form of exercise, getting us out into the countryside. Cycling on designated cycle paths as well as road cycling, we can enjoy the movement and scenery, the wonderful creation of our lord GOD.

Both activities have no age barrier but with the younger children parental help is encouraged and along with the Care for Children practises we intend to keep our children safe from harm.

The Oasis Church has coupled with other churches to form a group called 'SPORT REACH' using a slogan 'Breaking down barriers through sport'.

Please contact me via the office or website to find out more about our plans and activities. More photos from both sports and drama are available in our gallery.

A Derbyshire Bike ride.

Tissington to Brassington and Hopton top to join the High Peak Trail. Along the High Peak Trail to The Tissington Trail and to Tissington car park.
A triangle that includes a climb of 180 mtrs.
I set off at 8.15 a.m. with my bike on the car for Asbourne and Tissington. After arriving at Tissington I paid my car park fee and unloaded my bike. A quick check showed me that the tyres were good the brakes worked and the gears worked well. With food in my pocket and two bottles of drink on my bike I set off, my camera was in my saddle bag alongside my puncture repair kit. (not needed today.) I set of through the beuatifull and picturesque village of Tissington to the ford( use the bridge as the water is fast flowing and very cold, trust me!). The climb up to Hopton Top meanders through Bradbourne and Brassington and has taken me 1 hour in the past, this time it took me 45 mins. well I am older!. The view is stupendous, green feilds and leafy trees, cars in the distance using the roads that I had just climbed, great to be at the top.
The High Peak Trail was a mineral railway taking goods from the Cromford canal to Buxton, it is now a recreational pathway for walkers and cyclists. After passing through several gates, for the safety of farm animals, caravaners and farmers. I crossed the main road to Buxton, passed through pic-nic places and joined the Tissington Trail. Oops, I nearly missed the junction and took a few moments to read the dedication plaques where the trails merge. A few photo,s and now downhill, mostly to Tissington. A stop at Hartington Station for a snack and an essential visit to the very clean toilet and I was on my way. Passing other users of the path and exchanging a "good day" I progressed to Tissington. Rest, load the bike, more food and a welcome ice cream from a freindly young lady at the shop. Super Day. 2hours 15 mins riding plus stops, great.
Time to go home and enjoy the beuaty of Derbyshire as I descend the Via Gellia and the drive through the Derwent valley.
