Easter is a wonderful time to reflect on “The Greatest Gift – God’s Love!”
One of the facts that I love about Jesus is that he really did live the life he preached! This is expressed by his “Incarnational Love.”
Jesus came to the Earth with the mission of “laying down his life.” He says “Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down His life for His friends” (John 15:13).
At Easter Christians celebrate that Jesus, once and for all, dealt with the issue of “man’s sin” – The barrier between us and a personal relationship and walk with God. Romans 3:23 teaches us that “All have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God.” Knowing that only a perfect sacrifice, through the shredding of blood, could deal with the sin issue. Jesus came to the earth and lived that sinless life, so that He could become that perfect sacrifice, acceptable to God the Father – setting us free from the penalty of sin and death.
The cross is a sign of God’s kind of Love in Action!
As the nails pierced Jesus’ body, Jesus declared His obedience to heavenly Father’s call for His life, Jesus fulfilled the Greatest Commandment to “Love The Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” (Matthew 22:37)
This is our calling too. At times it involves the crucifixion of our own desires, goals and apparent freedoms. When we do The Love of God is released through our lives in the power of resurrection life. As we do that we fulfill the second greatest commandment, to “love your neighbour as yourself.” (Matthew 22:39)
Love, God’s kind of Love, is The Greatest Gift!
With all his Apostolic passion Paul states “Faith, Hope and Love remain, But the greatest of these is Love!” (1 Corinthians 13:13) “Earnestly desire the greater gifts. And yet I show you the most excellent way” – LOVE!!!
John, The Apostle of love and closest friend of Jesus during His earthly life and journey, tells us to “Walk in Love.”Because to walk in The Love of God is to Live in God.”
This Easter time let’s pick p the challenge afresh, encouraged by the example of Jesus and the statements of Paul and John….. Our world – the people of our world – need the Love of God. Yes, it involves us laying down our lives. And as we do so we will bless many and will find that we too are blessed with the Greatest Gift – The Love of God!
With Every Good Wish
