WHY DO WE WORSHIP GOD? "Worship the Lord your God, and serve Him only." (Matt 4:10b).
HOW SHOULD WE WORSHIP GOD? "Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshippers the father seeks. God is spirit and His worshippers must worship in spirit and truth." (John 4:23-24). "For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh." (Phil 3:3).
WHY DO WE STAND TO SING? "Then some Levites from the Kohathites and Korahites stood up and praised the Lord, the God of Israel, with a very loud voice." (2 Chr 20:19). "After this I looked and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands. They cried out in a loud voice, Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb." (Rev 7:9-10).
WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS? "Clap your hands all you nations, shout to God with cries of joy." (Psalm 47:1).
WHY DO WE LIFT OUR HANDS? "I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands." (Psalm 63:4). "Lift up your hands in the sanctuary and praise the Lord." (Psalm 134:2). "I want men everywhere to lift up holy hands in prayer, without anger or disputing." (1 Tim 2:8).
WHY DO WE HAVE AUDIBLE PRAISE UNTO GOD? "Praise the Lord, O my soul, all my inner most being, praise His Holy Name." (Psalm 103:1) "Through Jesus therefore let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise - the fruit of lips that confess His name." (Heb 13:15). "After this I heard what sounded like the roar of a great multitude in Heaven shouting Hallelujah! Salvation and glory and power belong to our God. Then I heard what sounded like a great multitude, like the roar of rushing waters and like loud peels of thunder, shouting Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns." (Rev 19:1-6).
WHY DO WE SING CHORUSES AS WELL AS HYMNS? "Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead be filled with the spirit. Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs." (Eph 5:18-19).
WHY DO WE SING IN TONGUES AND IN ENGLISH? "For if I pray in a tongue my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind, I will sing with my spirit but I will also sing with my mind." (1 Cor 14:15-16).
WHY DO WE HAVE SPEAKING IN UNKNOWN TONGUES AND THE INTERPRETATION IN THE CHURCH? "Therefore, my brothers, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues. But everything should be done in a fitting and orderly way." (1 Cor 14:39). "Now to each one in the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good, to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, toanother the ability to speak in different kinds of tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues." (1 Cor 12:7-10). "I would like everyone of you to speak in tongues, but I would rather have you prophesy. He who prophesies is greaterthan the one who speaks in tongues, unless he interprets, so that the church may be edified." (1 Cor 14:27). "If anyone speaks in a tongue, two or atthe most three should speak, one at a time, and someone must interpret."(1 Cor 14:27).
WHAT IS PROPHECY AND WHY DO WE PROPHESY? "But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort." (1 Cor 14:3). "Follow the way of love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy." (1 Cor 14:1).
WHY ARE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS A PART OF THE WORSHIP SERVICE? "Praise Him with the sounding of thetrumpet, praise Him with the harp and lyre, praise Him with tambourine and dancing, praise Him with strings and flute, praise Him with the clash of cymbals, praise Him with the resounding cymbals." (Psalm 150:3-5). "And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a load peel of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps." (Rev 14:2)
WHY DO WE DANCE BEFORE THE LORD? "Let them praise His name with dancing." (Psalm 149:2)."Praise Him with tambourine and dancing."(Psalm 150:3).
WHY DOES THE WHOLE CHURCH PRAY AT ONCE FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS? "When they heard this they raised their voices together in prayer to God. 'Sovereign Lord' they said 'You made the heaven and the earth and the sea and everything in them.'" (Acts 4:24).
WHY DO WE RECEIVE TITHES AND OFFERINGS? "Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the flood gates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it."(Mal 3:10). |
