We have concluded our evening studies looking at our Core Beliefs. For the next three Sunday evenings we are going to fellowship together in differing ways.
This Sunday, 9th June, we are preparing Shoe Boxes for Samaritan's Purse. I know that it isn't Christmas yet and they will not be sent until November. But, we have 50 shoe boxes and enough gifts donated to make them up. Come along, 6pm to 7pm and help us!
Sunday 16th June we are preparing for our outreach at Beeston Carnival. This takes place on Saturday 13th July. As usual we are providing cakes, drinks and a place of fellowship on Broadgate Park from 12 noon. Bags of sweet, flags and give aways need preparing.
This year's theme, for us, is The Royal Baby, as Kate and William's baby is due on Carnival Day! We are born to rule and reign with Christ. We will be walking in the Parade, at 1pm, from Foster Avenue Council House - with Royal family face masks, or dressed in our finery, giving out free gifts. Please come along and join us on the Day of the Carnival or on the evening of 16th June, 6pm to 7pm.
Sunday 23rd June, we are holding a Praise Party at the Oasis, commencing at 6pm. Rejoicing in The Lord. Thanking Him for His Love, Grace and Everything He is. Come along and celebrate with us!
Every Blessing Pastor Nigel

Last Sunday morning, during the service, we had a wonderful time of praise, worship and the revelatory gifts of The Holy Spirit were in operation. Nigel Adams, Director of Hope Nottingham, whom we partner with being involved in the Foodbank Scheme, Clothing and Volunteering, was our guest speaker.
These are days of great upheaval Nationally and Locally. Hardship is all around us. Locally even getting around has become more difficult with the closing of roads due to the installation of the tram and all the works that that has brought with it. Changes to the benefits system is also bringing fear and strain.
We need to be practical in our life and ministry, embracing Jesus. Determinedly living as He wants us to. Open to The Holy Spirit and His purposes, to exalt Jesus.
Spring time has come! With new buds, birds singing and spring cleaning. Again we have scaffolding up at the front of the church, on Willoughby Street. We are replacing the four windows above the porch and replacing rotten beading on the other windows. The front of the church and extension is also being painted.
Our windows in the 30 year old extension, accessed from Union Street, are now being replaced in the next few weeks. With these projects completed we are sorted in the physical for years to come.
In the near future we are looking at overhauling our website. These are exciting days of opportunity to live for Jesus and to build His Kingdom.
We do have challenges. Actually Wynne Lewis got it right when, as General Superintendant of the Elim Pentecostal churches, he said 'We do not have challenges we have opportunities.'
Let’s take our opportunities!

'Praise The Lord, all Nations, Laud Him, all peoples! For His loving kindness is great towards us, And The Truth of The Lord is everlasting, Praise The Lord!' (Psalm 11:7)
This Sunday evening, 3rd February at 6pm, we are holding a 'Praise Party' which will be led by our Worship Leader Andy Noyes and our Worship Team.
Jesus promises that as we lift His Name on High, and Praise Him, He will build a Throne in our midst. He promises that as we minister to Him, He will minister to us.
We knew a special sense of God's Presence last Sunday as we celebrated 100 years of The Gospel Mission - where Oasis Christian Centre is based. We are exicited about this New Season that we are entering.

100th Anniversary of the Gospel Mission Building
|
|
From the Pastor's Desk.......................
This weekend, at Oasis, we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Official Opening of The Gospel Mission Building. Rev Gordon Neale, our Regional Superintendent is our Guest Preacher. The Celebration begins at 10.30am. 100 years ago, as part of our Spiritual Ancestors Celebration, the congregation left the building through the then old Hall (Replaced in 1985). They walked up Union Street, turned right onto The High Road, to Willoughby Street, turning right, entering into the New Church Building with a shout of praise. During our Celebration we will re-enact that walk and declare our joy at serving The Lord Jesus Christ, at this venue, as we enter the second Century! We have produced a Booklet for the day. Which is printed below (click read more) The pictures for the booklet can be found in the Photo Gallery in The Church Album. After the Anniversary Celebration we are going to share lunch together. Please come and join with us as we Celebrate The Faithfulness of God and His people to the ministry here at Oasis Christian Centre, Beeston. With every good wish, Pastor Nigel

'Suddenly a great company of the Heavenly Host appeared with the Angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in The Highest' (Luke 2:13-14a)
Once again we have had great joy and fun dressing the Oasis for Christmas and New Year. This year’s theme is 'Glory to God in The Highest.' That is why we have the colour of gold, everywhere!
At Christmas time we celebrate the fact that The Eternal Son of God, The Great I AM, left The Throne of Glory in Heaven and, for a while, clothed Himself with flesh. Born of the Virgin Mary, He, Jesus, walked the earth and showed us who Father God is. In the Gospels we read of the Teachings, Miracles and Personhood of Jesus Christ. The Glory of God is seen in Jesus.
To many, at the time of Jesus arrest, mock trials, conviction and crucifixion it may seem that He became weak, very human, even defeated. But God’s plan for Jesus was that He grew in wisdom and stature before man and Father God so that, when The Time was right, He would die on the cross, shedding His blood, to be The Sacrificial Lamb. Totally fulfilling the penalty needing to be paid for the sins of all humanity. Jesus could do this because He lived a Perfect Life: Sinless!
Death could not hold Jesus! Three days after His death and burial He rose again! Expressing and Declaring His Victory, and in Him, our Victory:-
In asking Jesus forgiveness for our sins. In asking Jesus to be The Boss of our lives
In asking Jesus to direct our lives - as we read The Bible, Pray and fellowship with fellow Christians - we begin to share in The Glory of God and have the privilege of declaring:-
'Glory To God In The Highest'
Our Theme for 2013 is 'SHINE!'
May the year ahead be one that we succeed in bringing Glory to God with our lives declaring 'Shine 2013.'
May God Richly Bless you at this Christmas time and throughout 2013.

Positive comments about the Carnival and appreciation of Oasis’ involvement in it have continued to be spoken.
The last few months have been very busy months, both here at Oasis, in our families and in the locality. My prayer for this Summer period is that we will have sunshine, some relaxation and refreshment, and fresh envisioning for the future.
Thankyou for all the prayer, physical presence, financial giving, encouragement, and understanding that you have given especially during the replacing of the roof.
Hoftons, the Builders and Frederick Lamb our electricians will complete the works outstanding within the next few weeks. Because of the weather we have been flexible with the schedule.
Please remember Pastor Steve and Ericka in your prayers as they seek an appointment to their own Elim Pentecostal Church. Pray that The Lord’s Will will be done in and through their lives. We thank them for the ministry that they have fulfilled here at Oasis.
During the Summer we welcome a number of Guest Speakers to our morning services at Oasis. On Sunday 29th Pastor Godfrey Fearn, and his wife Josephine will be with us. Then on Sunday 12th August we renew fellowship with Tom, Lis, Naomi and Reuben who have been serving The Lord in The Far East. On Sunday 19th August, Pastor Trevor Partington and his wife Christine will be ministering. With every good wish - Pastor Nigel

There is great deal happening in and around the lives and building at the Oasis Christian Centre, Beeston.
We are coming to the end of a large project to renew the physical roof of the main church, which has just seen its 100th Anniversary since teh foundation stones were laid. And Pastor Steve and Erika have announced their desire to move on to their own church. We have enjoyed having them with us and they will be greatly missed!
Pastor Steve shares his heart with us through this blog entitled "The Challenge of Change"
God's Richest Blessings be yours
Pastor Nigel
The Challenge of Change....
Change is something that each one of us face throughout our lives, either we welcome it with open arms or we struggle to comes to terms with it even going as far as to pretend it’s not happening.
Change nearly always brings challenge because it requires us to move out of our comfort zone. This can make us feel insecure as we are faced with the uncertainty of what the future holds.
But change does not have to be something we dread if we allow God to help us through the process. If we decide to embrace change it is likely we will experience challenges in our faith and personal life, but if we stick close to Christ and persevere through the time of stretching we can look forward to a deepening of our relationship with Christ and a more rounded faith.
In June, after much prayer and consideration Erika and I announced to the Oasis that we would be leaving and stepping into the next chapter of our ministry, believing God is calling us to lead our own church.
This decision is not one we have taken lightly, but one we believe we need to make in order to fulfill everything God has in store for us. Sunday 22nd July will be our farewell service at the Oasis. We will be leaving behind a church family who we have been privileged to journey with over the last three years and whom we will miss greatly, but there is also a sense of excitement for what lies ahead.
This next step is by far the biggest challenge myself and Erika have faced together as a couple, we know it won’t be easy - but the knowledge that we are doing what God has asked and that he is leading the way fills us with complete peace.
If you have been on the journey with Christ for a while then you will know that when we go through times of change often we don’t know all the answers to our situation or how it will work out, but we understand the importance of relying on God and being willing to take a step of faith when God asks.
In recent months I have been struck by the story of Abraham – If there was ever a man who embraced change he was one. When Abraham was 75 years old God told Abraham to leave his home, his community, his country and go to the land he would show him. Abraham had no idea what lay in store but he got up and followed God’s lead.
God then told Abraham he would have a son and through his son he would become a great nation, Abraham believed God even though Sarah was old and barren. Abraham had a son, Isaac and it was then that God gave him his biggest challenge to sacrifice his one and only son through whom God had promised he would have many descendants…
Abraham obeyed and was about to kill his only son when God stopped him and provided him with a replacement ram. Abraham didn’t know what was going to happen, but he clung to the promises God had given him and had the faith to believe that even if Isaac died God had the power to raise him again.
Abraham chose to take a step of faith and to embrace change even though he didn’t have all the answers. It would have been really easy for him to stay in the comfort of what he knew.
But Abraham was willing to leave everything he knew, he was willing to believe God for the impossible (a son) even though his wife was barren and he was willing to sacrifice his son because he heard God’s voice and he was willing to respond. When Abraham obeyed his life changed forever, he became closer to God… Isn’t that what it’s all about?
Is God asking you to embrace some kind of change? Perhaps it’s a change in personal situation… a task God is asking you to do or maybe he is challenging your inner attitudes, heart or focus…. The challenge is are you ready to do what God asks, are you willing to embrace change? Are you willing to do whatever it takes?
If your answers to these questions are yes, then get ready to experience a time of adventure and challenge as your faith stretches and you learn to rely totally on God for all your needs. God will never leave you or forsake you - May God truly bless you as you seek to embrace the challenge of change!
I want to finish by saying what an immense privilege it has been to be part of the leadership at Beeston Oasis Christian Centre. Our thanks go to Pastor Nigel, Jill and Abbie, the servants council for all their love and support and to all our Beeston Oasis family who have journeyed with us over the last three years, we will miss you all.
Be Blessed

100th Anniversary
|
|
On Friday 15th June 2012 we celebrate the 100th Anniversary since the laying of the foundation stones to the then Gospel Missions Hall.
We praise God for the faith and vision of our forebears. Their determination to build a centre for the Gospel outreach that they had begun nearly 30 years earlier.
What an inheritance we have gained from those who have gone before us - practically, physically and most importantly spiritually.
Over the years we have demolished, renovated, extended, developed buildings enabling us to be in the position that we are today, by The Grace of God. At the moment we have scaffolding around this 100 year old building as we are replacing the six dormer windows and the tiles on the roof.
Like those Christian Believers 100 years ago we are enjoying the present with its opportunities and challenges. And we are looking forward, in faith and with anticipation, to what The Lord Jesus has for us to be involved with and to become.

From The Pastor's Desk - Easter 2012
|
|
Easter is a time for us to remember Jesus! The practical expression of His love for us, and towards us, that first Easter is incalculable and indefinable really. But needs to be remembered by us.
The disciples of Jesus went through the most traumatic, challenging and faith stretching time that first Easter.
At the time of Jesus’ arrest all the disciples ran away. The Gospels give us insights into how they subsequently responded to the expressed love of Jesus reaching out to them and offering them Resurrection Life.
Jesus is The Son of God, who came to take away the sins of the world. He did this by living a sinless life and fulfilling The Call of Father God to be The Lamb of God, paying the ultimate price, by giving His Life for us. As He was nailed to the cross He paid the penalty for our sins. He took our punishment for our sins, so that we could receive forgiveness from God The Father and live with Jesus in our lives.
Thomas has been called ‘Doubting Thomas’ because he, initially, refused to accept that Jesus was Resurrected from the dead. Jesus revealed Himself to Thomas telling him to put his finger in the hole marks where the nails had gone and his hand in His side where the spear had gone. Thomas’ response was “My Lord and My God.”
As we remember Jesus’ Words and Actions this Easter may we serve The Lord and God with the Resurrection Life that He has given us.
“Jesus, let our eyes be fully open, so we may see the world as you see it; let our hands be fully open, so that all You have given us may be shared; let our hearts be fully open, so that we may love in the way that you loved.”
With every good wish - Pastor Nigel

From The Pastor's Desk Christmas 2011
|
|
The theme for Christmas at the Oasis Christian Centre, Beeston, this year is 'The Gift.'
The Apostle Paul sums this up well when he writes, in 2 Corinthians 9:15, 'Thanks be to God for His Indescribable Gift!'
Jesus is God's Indescribable Gift!
Charles Spurgeon wrote, over a century ago, 'You may study, look, and meditate, but Jesus is a greater Saviour that you think Him to be, even when your thoughts are at their highest.'
Jesus is the primary figure in the New Testament. Jesus, The One, that Old Testament believers had been waiting and looking for. Jesus, The One, who fulfils all the prophecies written about The Messiah. Jesus, The One, who came and fulfilled all The Law and The Prophets. Jesus, The One, The Only One qualified and able to be The Sacrificial Lamb of God, dying on the cross, to pay the penalty for all the sins committed by mankind. Jesus, The One, who rose again from the dead, The First Fruits of all Christian believers.
Jesus: God's Public Gift Although Jesus was born in a stable, in Bethlehem, in apparent obscurity. The Scripture had prophesied it. The Angelic Host declared it to the Shepherds in the fields looking after their sheep. They went, saw Jesus and then declared who and what they had seen. They received and shared The Gift!
Jesus: God's Personal Gift It has been rightly said that God has children, not grandchildren. He reveals His Truth to us personally. Putting our faith in Jesus Christ is a personal decision. His promise to us is that 'Everyone who calls on The Name of The Lord will be saved.' (Romans 10:13)
Jesus: God's Private Gift His teachings and interventions are life changing. He transforms our individual lives today. Dealing with the private details of our lives. Challenging us to live His way. Those of us who have put our faith in Him have found Him to be more than sufficient. He directs our paths. Meets our deepest needs. Reveals His plans and purposes to us.
There is no Greater Gift than Jesus!
It is our privilege to share Jesus, The Gift, this Christmas time! We have sent 148 shoe boxes, through Samaritan's Purse. As you will see in this Newsletter we are planning to 'Feed The Hungry' - there are boxes in the foyer for donations of food stuffs to be distributed through Hope Nottingham. We are singing 'Carols and Christmas Songs' at Tesco and Elm House. Enjoying a 'Christmas Afternoon' with our Evergreens and Luncheon Club members and friends. Meals, Parties and Celebrations are planned by all our ministry groups! And we have the Joy of sharing together our Advent services.
Jesus: The Gift! Is Not Just For Christmas!! Our theme for 2012 is 'Take It off The Shelf in 2012!!!!!' Throughout the coming year we will be unwrapping God's Word and letting Jesus fulfil His Will through our lives.
Jill, Abbie, Pastor Steve & Erika, join me in wishing you God’s Richest Blessing at this Christmas time and throughout 2012!

From The Pastor's Desk - September 2011....................
|
|
Our ministries are re-commencing after the summer break and we are looking forward with expectation, to what The Lord is going to do in this New Season.
We are looking forward, as we always do, at this time of year, to welcoming students into the area. Pastor Steve has an exciting Young Adults programme set out for the year. Re:fresh meet on the first three Wednesday evenings of each month. For a time of worship, teaching and socials. For more information please e-mail refreshbeeston@yahoo.co.uk
We begin, at 6pm, this Sunday, 11th September, a study of The Book of Revelation entitled "The Revelation of Jesus Christ." Neither Pastor Steve, nor I, claim to be experts in Revelation. However, in recent months I have heard The Holy Spirit's challenge to do this study. I was encouraged to know that many, including Martin Luther, Zwingli and Calvin did not engage with this book during their ministries. With so much going on in our world today we need to live with the awareness of Jesus Revelation.
We take great Hope from Revelation 1:3 "Blessed is the one who READS the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near."
You are very welcome to come along and to join us as we seek to provide "A Safe Place In The Community For The Community."

From The Pastor's Desk - Summer 2011

One of my favourite Psalms is Psalm 84, known as "The Travellers Psalm" or "The Psalm of Pilgrimage". Written for the choir director it is a Psalm of the sons of Korah and was sung by those longing for the Temple worship, in Old Testament Times.
This was the first message I preached here at Oasis nearly 17 years ago. V5 "Blessed are those whose strenght in in You, who have set their hearts on pilgrimage."
As Christians we are on a pilgrimage, a journey, through life. Within our life time we make many different journeys. Some of them we take alone. Others we take with our spouse; family and friends.
The summer time is a period when many of us travel, to take a break. May all of us know the Refreshing and Strenthening of The Lord Jesus in our lives. Rest is needed to prepare ourselves for the next part of our journey. During times of rest we can also find it easier to "hear" the still small voice of God. The Lord promises that as we seek Him he will be found by us. He will share His thoughts and insights with us.
During this summer take time to meditate on Psalm 84. It does not matter how old or young we are; where we are on our journey of life; what situation(s) we are facing. Contained within the Psalm is food for our journey, take time to stop and eat.

Beeston Carnival has become an Annual Event for the Town and for the Oasis. This year it takes place on Saturday 9th July. There is a Parade, starting outside the Town Hall on Foster Avenue. Processing to Broadgate Park, where displays and stands, from many different organisations and businesses in the area are situated. It is always a GREAT DAY !!!!! Oasis, along with Hope NG9 Churches are offering free cakes; tea; coffee; juice in a Cafe environment. Tables will be set out for people to chat informally. There will be a children's play and activities area. We have taken part in the Carnival ever since it was launched, by Councillors Pat and Lynda Lally. Each year we have chosen a topical theme to declare a Biblical Truth. This year is THE ROYAL WEDDING. We will be dressed in wedding outfits for the Parade to declare The Truth that Jesus is preparing a Wedding Feast for His Church..... So....... You may not have been invited to The Royal Wedding this year but we all have an invitation to the Greatest Feast of all time !! The Marriage Supper of The Lord Jesus Christ. The Bible records Jesus' parable of The Wedding Feast declaring, in Matthew 22:4 "Tell those who have been invited that I have prepared My dinner : My oxen and fattened cattle have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the Wedding Banquet." Our message is that everyone is invited but that each of us needs to be dressed correctly - not with posh physical clothes - but clothed with "God's Righteousness." We need to be in right relationship with God The Father. This happens when we acknowledge to Him that we have sinned and fallen short of His standards and accept Jesus, The Son of God, who died for our sins and rose again to new life so that we might never again experience seperation from God. Revelation chapter 19 tells us that Jesus Christ is coming to the earth a second time. It will be the most incredible event in human history! As well as the ultimate proof that He is in fact exactly Who He claims to be - The Glorious, Eternal, Triumphant Son of God. Jesus promised to come back for His people (John 14:3). He returns for His people (Revelation 17:14). The future destiny of every Christian is as certain as Jesus' Return and we will declare: - "Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him Glory ! For The Wedding of The Lamb has come, and His Bride has made herself ready. Fine linen, bright and clean, was given for her to wear. (Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.)"........."Blessed are those who are invited to the Wedding Supper of The Lamb." (Rev 19:7-9a) Our question is, "Will you be there ?" If you are not sure then we invite you to give your life to Jesus Christ. To turn from your sin. To Ask for, and to receive forgiveness. To start living Eternal Life now and know that your seat is booked at The Greatest Feast of all !! With every good wish, Pastor Nigel

We have a wonderful creator. His handiwork is seen, even in our fallen world. So far the three local ministers - Anthony Oakley, Nigel Adams and I have seen £2000 raised. We have all benefitted from taking up the challenge.

For the last two and half months I have been in training to do a coast to coast cycle ride, from Workington to Sunderland. This all came about at the end of meeting that I attended, with my daughter, at the school she attends, with the intention that she do the coast to coast. In September I celebrate my 50th birthday. So, having run a marathon in my 39th year I had decided that for my 49th year I would drive a Jag from Lands End to John O' Groats. At the end of the meeting the teacher said, "In April/May we are doing a PTFA version of Coast to Coast. Rev Antony Oakley, whose son did it last year said, "You should do it ! We'll do it together." At first I told him of my Jag trip ! But even as I said it I thought, if I'm going to do it, I ought to do it now...I signed up. Rev Antony Oakley; Nigel Adams (Director of Hope Nottingham); John Gibbon and myself are cycling for the Mayor of Broxtowe's Charities - Hope Nottingham and St George's Mother & Child Hospital. If you would like to sponsor us please make your cheque payable to "Hope Nottingham." You can send it to Oasis, or directly to the Office of : Hope Nottingham, Hope House, The Boundary Community Centre, Boundary Road, Beeston. Nottingham. NG9 2RF. For more information please go to www.hopenottingham.org.uk I am indebted to Bob Rideout, who has given me a great deal of information, practical help and support. On a recent training ride he was commenting that his body could not do what he wanted it to ! My reply was, "Bob if I can do what you are doing when I am your age (Bob is over 70 !) I'll be very happy !!!" To be honest keeping up with Bob has been difficult !!!!! On another occasion when Bob made the same comment I reminded him of the fact that last year he literally came back from the dead and did so knowing that there was work still for him to do ! You can read his testimony after this blog. I thank God for the gift of Bob - and will try to remember all that he has taught me between April 30th and May 3rd, because it will make this cyle ride fulfilling and enjoyable ! Please pray for us !!!!!!!!!!! With every good wish Nigel

A NIGHT OF BATTLE. 20 Minutes to live!! " When I saw you come in I thought Oh my God" "it is a miracle that you survived." were the words of one nurse. I regard my survival on that night of battle as a miracle from God. My life has been extended for his purpose. I am a living testimony of the mercy of God and to his love for each of us. I was taken into the Queens Medical Centre on the night of 23rd of March 2010 having collapsed whilst speaking to the prisoners during a prison visit. God was with me and he provided a paramedic who kept me alive while the ambulance, which was seriously delayed, arrived. My very few recollections of this time were of of the number of people involved in saving my life. I felt like a superstar. In fact Jesus is the superstar. Many people were praying for my complete recovery and when my wife was given 20 minutes to say goodbye, Pastor Nigel and Pat prayed ffor more time. Some 2 hours later Pat was informed that I needed a procedure or I would die. The doctors and surgeon and the nurse were doing God's work as thay fought to save my life and I am eternally gratefull for that. I know this. God was with me and gave me an extention to my life and the many prayers had a very big impact during that night of battle, 12 months later I am able to continue the ministries just as before, and I can enjoy my cycling and the Fit4 God aeribics just as before, with some caution. God is Good. Bob

On Sunday this week, 13th March, we are celebrating the theme, during our All Age Worship Service (10.30am) "The Compassion of Christ!" As we do so we are also celebrating Macmillan Cancer support's Centenary.
In 1911, a few days before his father's death from cancer, Douglas Macmillan received a £10 birthday gift which he made the first donation towards the "cancer scourge".
In 1911 Douglas Macmillan founded the Society for the Prevention and Relief of cancer. In 1989, Macmillan published its very first directory "Help is There." In 2009, their vital services reached over one million people living with cancer in the U.K.
Today, Douglas' legacy lives on. Macmillan is still a source of support for people living with cancer and a major force for improving cancer care. But, although they have an incomeof £122 million they're still not reaching everybody living with cancer. And in the future their services will be more vital than ever.
I would like to invite you to join with us this weekend as we celebrate the Compassion of Christ and Macmillan's Centenary. We commence the service at 10.30am. After the service you are welcome to visit our "Tea Room" to sit and be served tea, coffee, juice and cakes by The Flow - one of our Teenage groups. There will also be hand made cards available to purchase. If you then want to make a donation to the work of Macmillan we will gladly receive it on their behalf and forward it to them.
For more information about Macmillan their website is www.macmillan.org.uk

February 2011 From The Pastor's Desk.....

I wonder whether you have ever seen a fire in full motion, there is nothing quite like it, the force and power, the bright colours and the extreme heat, fire is unpredictable and dangerous, yet there is something about it that is all comsuming. I remember when I was a young boy in infant school and we had some local fire fighters who gave us a demonstration. We got to go in the fire engine, try on a helmet, and watch as the fire fighters showed us how they put out a fire. Before the end of the presentation they had to go and attend a proper fire, I remember thinking how much I wanted to be a fireman, the thought of doing something brave and heroic, fighting fire and rescuing people was every young boys dream.
All these years later I have a better understanding of the dangers of being a fireman and to be honest I am glad I no longer have a passion to be a fireman. The men and women who go to fight fires are the real heros, those who risk their lives every day to put out fires and rescue people.
You may be thinking why all this talk about fire? The Bible has much to say about fire.... In the Old Testament we have God talking to Moses from the burning bush, we have Elijah calling down the fire of God onto a saturated altar in order to prove the power of God. In the New Testament we have the example of The Holy Spirit coming down on the believers at Pentecost with tongues of fire and Paul's charge to Timothy to fan into flame the gift that God gave him... it's a challenge to us today!
At the end of February I am taking some of the young people to Elim's National Weekend Gathering 2011 - Revolution Fires. Serious 4 God says on it's website "Are you ready to start a revolution? Are you ready to stand up and be counted? Do you want to see your neighbourhood, school, college, university, town, city, church or even just your home changed by the power of God?"
I am believing that this weekend will impact both myself and the young people, but what a challenge it is for all of us.
God calls us as believers to be on fire for Him, God wants to use us to make a difference in the world that we live in. As a fire can easily engulf and sweep through an area in no time causing destruction, God wants us to have our fire burning for Him. Not that we would cause destruction, but that the love and compassion of Christ and the power of The Holy Spirit might engulf every part of our lives and in turn the people in our towns and community might be consumed by the Love and Power of God. This nation will only change when we live our lives sold out for Christ, when we decide to totally live by The Spirit, when we fan into flame the gifts God have given us and obey everything God tells us to do.
Jesus is looking for revolutionaries, are you in? Are you ready to start your own revolution fire? The challenge has been set!
Be Blessed - Pastor Steve

We "Celebrate The Word From Heaven Throughout 2011!"
2011 is the 400th Anniversary of the printing of the Bible in English. In our society, where we have free access to purchase, own and read God's Word we can very much take for granted our freedom. Many across the world do not have the same liberty that we do.
We need to Treasure God's Word, for it is through reading, and meditating upon it, that we get to know The God of The Word.
In these days we need to know God's Word. To use it as The Sword of The Spirit, to win the spiritual battles. To know, claim and inherit The Promise of God.
At a recent local Minister's Breakfast a number of us pledged to read through The Word of God this year - not as penance, but as a pleasure. Certainly as a good discipline, but rather to develop our discipleship. Not to get bogged down in legalism but to be open to The Spirit of God who builds up our faith as we apply The Word of God to our personal lives.
No time spent in The Presence of God, with The Word of God, is wasted!
Let us celebrate The Word from Heaven Throughout 2011!
With every good wish - Pastor Nigel

From The Pastor's Desk - Christmas 2010

The Magi asked King Herod the question that rocked his world and caused him to murder all the boys in the vacinity of Bethlehem who were under the age of two years old, "Where is The One who has been born King of The Jews ? We saw His star in the East and have come to worship Him." This years Advent Prayer Letter written and produced jointly by the Evangelical Alliance and Scripture Union, encourage us to "Get Ready For The King !" Our theme, at Oasis Christian Centre Beeston, this Christmas can be seen on the cover of this newsletter - "Meekness and Majesty !" The manger that Jesus was laid in speaks of His Meekness. The crown speaks of His Majesty. When the Magi found Jesus they found He Who Is the epitomy of Meekness and Majesty. In presenting their gifts of Gold, Incense and Myrrh they recognised Jesus' Kingship; His Worth-ship and the fact of His future death for the sake of all mankind. Once again this Christmas we celebrate the fact of Jesus' Birth, His First Coming - We greet The King. Let's Get ready for The King ! During Jesus' public ministry He continually spoke of His Second Coming ! This will not be a moment of quiet, meekness, born in Bethlehem, welcomed by a few Shepherds, the Magi, the Inn Keeper and his family, This time everyone will see Him ! His Majesty !!! The Apostle Paul writes, "For The Lord Himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet The Lord in the air. And we will be with The Lord forever." (1 Thessalonians 4: 16-17). We need to "Get Ready For The King !!!!!" His Majesty The disciples tried to get a date out of Jesus for His Second Coming. Many since have tried to discern that date ! Jesus says, "It is not for you to know the times or the dates The Father has set by His own Authoroty. But you will receive power when The Holy Spirit comes on you." (Acts 1: 7-8a). Whilst we continue to live in days of God's Grace we need to "Get Ready For The King !!!!!" This coming year, I believe, can be a very special one for all of us as we take hold of the Truth that we can : "Live Under An Open Heaven Throughout 2011." Accepting and declaring both Jesus' Meekness and His Majesty. His historical first coming and His awaited Second Coming ! Like the Magi, let's, "Get Ready For The King !!!!!" With every Good Wish for this Christmastime and the New Year, Pastor Nigel

This coming Sunday, 7th November, we are meeting together from 5pm to 7pm to prepare Shoe Boxes for Samaritan's Purse.
Please come along and join us! Many people are bringing and have supplied toys; toothpaste; tooth brushes; pens; crayons; sweets; hair brushes; combs etc. So we will be enjoying fellowship together as we wrap and fill the boxes.
Not too far away from Oasis is the Middle Street Resource Centre, Beeston. It is an excellent day centre providing daily support for people with all kinds of mental health issues. It is under threat of closure because of County Council cuts.
There is now a House of Commons petition to keep the centre open. Over 4,000 signatures are needed to make an impact. Details of how to help will follow. Go to http://www.mistag.co.uk/epetition/ to sign up.
Our All Age Worship Service for November is at 10.30am on 14th and has the theme of 'Shoe Box.' We will be focusing on that ministry. You are welcome to join with us!

My Testimony by Pastor Steve Crosse
|
|
It is 13 years this August that God first called me into the ministry. I was at the Isle of Wight youth camp, God had done a lot of things in me throughout the whole week. Towards the end of the week I vividly remember being prayed for and prophesied over and at that moment knowing in my Spirit that my life was about to change.
I was 16 years old and I remember thinking that I was ready to start my ministry there and then, I would go wherever and tell whoever everything God wanted me too, starting back at school, nothing was going to stop me. I guess in many ways I expected everything to just fall into place. If you have been on your walk with Christ for any length of time, you will know that when words are given we have to test them and after that there is always a time of preparation.
Over the next two years during my A-levels I went through one of the most challenging times of my life so far. I came back fired up from the camp ready to launch the Christian Union with a teacher friend of mine, but was unprepared for the level of attack from my peers who didn’t understand and could not cope with my full on Christian attitude. Looking back I believe I was probably a little too full on, but my life had changed.
I have to be honest and say there were times during those two years where I did question whether I had heard from God, did God really want to use me? If so surely it was meant to be easier than this. But the one thing that stayed constant even when I was being verbally bullied for my faith, was the realisation in my Spirit that the call of God on my life was getting stronger each day.
Over the following seven years I went on a journey as I picked up skills and experiences that helped to shape the person I am now and the calling God has upon my life. Little did I know that I would be writing this blog all these years later as a pastor - the very thing as a child I said I would not do - I remember saying to God - I will do anything for you - just do not make me a pastor.
God has a sense of humour, he knew full well what was going to happen. It was not till I went to Kosova in 2005 the realisation of the call of God into pastoral ministry was evident. I went out still not fully knowing where my calling lay, or at least not admitting it anyway. But being stripped away of my home comforts and my family & friends, I was finally in the place to hear the voice of God clearly.
In September 2006 I went to bible college and did a practical course called the school of ministry, I then applied to become a minister in training, was accepted and placed in Driffield Christian Fellowship as the youth pastor, where I served for three years. I saw the youth group grow and saw people won for Christ, for the first time since God had called me, I felt fulfilled. In September 2009 I moved here to the Beeston Oasis to become the assistant pastor.
Why tell you all this? Well on Monday June 7th 2010, I am being ordained by Elim as a fully fledged ministe - notice I did not say fully complete, my training goes on for the rest of my life and so does yours - it is called our Christian walk.
Sometimes I still find it difficult to comprehend what God has done in my life. On that day I will be recognised by my denomination and my peers which is a lovely thought, but the one that drives me on is knowing that I am fulfilling the plans God has for my life. That day will be the result of all the prayers that have been prayed and the night God called me in August 1997. But that is not the fulfilment of my ministry but just the start, there are greater things to come.
I feel so privileged to be in the position that God has called me too, I am no better than anyone else - Just that God has anointed me to do his work and have the seal of approval from my heavenly Father.
God has called each one of you too, whether it be in your work place, in your family, in your community or at your church, he has a role for you to play, the question is do you know what that is? If you do not the key to finding out is making sure you listen to his voice and then obey what he tells you to do. If you do that you will always be on the right track.
Be blessed, Pastor Steve

Introducing Pastor Steve Crosse
|
|
Hi my name is Steve Crosse and I am the Assistant Pastor here at the Oasis Christian Centre Beeston. My main responsibility is for the 18-30s age group. I also preach and visit as well as supporting the youth work. My desire is to see people coming into relationship with Jesus Christ and living their life to the full.
Background I was born in Bristol on the 21st April 1981, which makes me 28 years old (although people say I look 18...I wisely take it as a compliment). I am engaged to Erika Dalheim who is currently doing a PGCE History qualification and we will be getting married next July.
Becoming a Christian at the age of 6 is the best decision I have ever made and my relationship with God is my number one priority. He is my best friend and confidant and has helped me to become the person I am today. I lived in Bristol till I was 18 years old when I left and moved to Birmingham where I worked for Youth for Christ for a year (Operation Gideon) in schools. I then moved to Coventry where I did Nexus Music Academy and studied bass guitar.
I stayed in Coventry for a further 3 years where I worked in Coventry Evening telegraph in the Advertising department and did youth work in Coventry Elim church. I then spent just over a year working in Kosova working with young people & children. In 2005 I went to the Elim Theological college (Regents) and did the school of ministry which was an intensive one year course. When I finished I applied to become a Minister in Training and started in the Elim church in Driffield where I was youth Pastor for 3 years before coming to Beeston in September.
Hobbies I have many different hobbies including reading, playing & watching football, watching movies, eating, spending time with family & friends and playing my bass guitar (Loudly).
Here at Oasis Christian Centre we desire to see people of all ages and nationalities coming together to worship Jesus. We invite you to come and join us on Sunday we would love to see you.
God Bless - Pastor Steve (Assistant Pastor, Oasis Christian Centre)
